On an auspicious day and time, the person who builds the mantap decorates a bamboo stick with turmeric paste and red earth and ties a bunch of mango leaves at its tip. Chettiar family members bring the auspicious garlands from the temples and hand them over to the bride’s family. The groom enters the hall with the Nadaswaram troupe and the ceremony starts. Chettiar Weddings consist of elaborate rituals and concludes with the groom shows the bride the double stars of Vashista and Arundhati as an ideal couple, symbolic of marital fulfillment and loyalty.
